Introduction

The organizations rely on the team performance for the expansion of the global market as well as to overcome the challenges that they may face while conducting the business. The teams and the groups within the organizations are considered as the building blocks for the growth and development of the organization (Griffin, Neal and Parker, 2007). In the business world, the managers assign more team projects in order to improve the work process and strengthen skills among the team members (Montes, Moreno and Morales, 2005).

Teamwork is considered as an important factor for the effective functioning of the organization. The organizations concentrate more on the performance of the team members in order to accelerate the work process and take up new challenges (Montes, Moreno and Morales, 2005). The organizations are able to achieve its goals as the productivity of the teams increases in the global market. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the importance of team work in order to improve the organizational performance. The research also allows the researcher to understand the strategies adopted by the companies in improving the team performance so as to make the organization sustain competitive advantage in the international market.

Importance of Teamwork

According to the researcher teamwork is essential for an organization because the teamwork can make efficient use of the labour and also enhances the productivity by maximising the different skills of the labour force (Zellmer-Bruhn and Gibson, 2006). It also encourages the labourers to perform better in order to create brand awareness for the organization in the international market. The process of team working can bring in product innovation that in turn ensures the customer satisfaction of the organization (Zellmer-Bruhn and Gibson, 2006). The managers and the employees are important for the teamwork performed in the organization (Collins and Smith, 2006). The factors that are essential in a team work are honesty, consistency, openness and respect (Zellmer-Bruhn and Gibson, 2006). The cooperation among the team members and the team leader results in production of innovative ideas to overcome the challenges that the organization is facing. The effective team work comprises of the following factors such as the goals of the organization are shared and there is interdependence among the team members. According to the research, a positive interdependence among the team members results in sharing of the views among the team members as well as participate in the strategic decision making (Morgeson, Reider and Campion, 2005).

The team works enables the team members to develop interpersonal skills and brings in a sense of commitment among the team members so that they perform their task successfully. A good team work defines the roles and responsibilities played by each member in a team and the team members are allowed to discuss the problems and its solutions. The team building system allows an open communication among the team members as well as between the team members and the higher management. It helps in understanding the professional relationships among the employees which in turn enhances the quality of work done in an organization (Espinosa, et al., 2007). The teamwork is essential in order to increase competitiveness among the organization through the enhancement of the employee motivation as well as prioritise the communication skills of the employees (Torrente, et al., 2012). Often, there are cases when the team working leads to change in organizational culture and long-term transformation in the work process (Zhang, et al., 2007). The team work among the employees help to implement the change within the organization successfully so that the organization can compete with the rivals in the international market. Development of good communication skills among the team members as a result of the team work helps the employees to communicate with the clients and the customers so as to understand their needs and requirements and plan out the work process accordingly (Manser, 2009). The system of working in teams creates a good relationship among the employees and the managers and the employees can share their views regarding any controversy that arises among them. Moreover, the training offered by the team leaders to the team members is an essential factor that enables the employees to work efficiently in an organization. The training provided to employees by the managers helps them to grow multitasking and perform several tasks within an organization.

There are different types of the team performances that take place within an organization that is the independent team as well as the interdependent team (Manser, 2009). The interdependent team involves the dependence among the team members within an organization whereas in case of the independent teams the team members perform their job individually within the organization (Manser, 2009). There are other types of team performances within an organization such as the self-managed team, sports team and the virtual team. Self managed team are meant to handle the complex projects within an organization with their distinct leadership styles (Manser, 2009). On the contrary the sports team within an organization are meant to arrange the sports events whereas the virtual teams are the groups that undertake work independently within some shared boundary, space, time as well as technology (Manser, 2009). Hence researcher argues that there are various types of team management strategies adopted by different organizations.
Impact of Team work on the Organization

The teams have an impact on the effectiveness in the individual or in the organizational levels in order to enhance the performance. The research suggests that there are internal as well as the external factors that are essential for the enhanced performance and effective teamwork in an organization (Stewart, 2006).
